The Eagle River Water & Sanitation District (ERWSD) is replacing a critical, aging, water main in the Arrowhead ski area, along Piece-O-Cake ski run and Cresta Road.
Construction began last April, was suspended during the winter months, and is starting back up on May 5th.
Week of May 5th:
ERWSD will begin to mobilize equipment Monday, May 5th.
Expect to see excavation mid week.
There will be a road cut on Cresta road on a date TBD in May; they will have flaggers and we will get communication out to the community once we have more information.
ERWSD’s detailed letter with map offers additional project information.
Project updates will be posted on this website and can also be found at erwsd.org.

After a winter pause, the roundabout landscaping project now continues.
This map shows the areas referred to in the project updates below.
05-12-2025
Foundations have been set and now the masons are working on laying bricks for the entry walls.
Ceres Landscaping has planted some trees on the north berm and turned on irrigation for this area.
Irrigation heads have been installed in the roundabout.
Irrigation lines on the south side of Highway 6 are being installed.
Edwards Electric will continue working this week bringing power to the signs and adding outlets for tree lighting.
05-05-2025
The footers for the entry walls have been staked and Castleton Masonry are pouring the footers.
Ceres Landscaping has uncovered all of the “sleeves” or pipes that connect the various sections under the road and they are working on installing the irrigation piping and wiring for the various zones.
Edwards Electric will be onsite late this week or early Jan 13th to begin to lay the conduit for the lights and outlets around the area.
04-21-2025
Summary of last week
Excavation continued on the Southwest and Southeast corners.
All trees were removed from the Southwest and Southeast corners.
The electrician disconnected power in these areas to allow grading to continue.
Grading work was started in the center of the roundabout, leveling the dirt.
Next 1-2 Weeks
Locates for the “sleeve”, or conduit, for the irrigation are scheduled.
Excavation crews will move from the southwest corner to the north end, allowing space for the crews from Castleton Masonry to get in and start digging and pouring footers.
Castleton Masonry will follow the excavators moving from the southwest corner to the southeast corner.
The landscapers will follow the masons to finalize the grading and get beds in place.
04-14-2025 Project resumes
This week, on the south side of Highway 6, trees are being removed, excavators are moving dirt and providing the rough grading for the east and west sides of the main Arrowhead entrance. This will continue for another 7 -10 days. Currently they are on the West side of the entrance then they will move to the east and lastly to the north side of the roundabout.
After this is completed (again 7-10 days) the heavy equipment will leave and smaller work trucks will be on site doing irrigation work, fine tuning the grading, planting trees, etc.

Vail Resorts approved two new trails this summer. The first is a new multi-use trail along the nose in front of Flint ski run, this will bypass the steep double track under the lift.
Second, and much anticipated, is a single-use hiking/running trail on Arrowhead mountain.
This will be a challenging trail between Golden Bear and Cresta ski runs.
VVMTA is approved as a trail builder on Vail Resorts land; they are also assisting with remedial work on several Arrowhead trails.
Construction begins late May/early June 2025.
VVMTA welcomes volunteers that would like to help on this project. Visit the VVMTA website for more information.
